Fire and Safety Shop

About Fire & Safety

Our Mission: To ensure the safety of the University of Miami students, faculty, staff and, visitors.

The above mission is accomplished through the cooperative efforts of Facilities Management & Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to keep all systems certified, code compliant, and in optimal condition.

UM's Coral Gables campus rests in the jurisdiction of the City of Coral Gables Fire Department (CGFD). As such, our program is designed to meet all appropriate regulations.

In order to create a partnership for success, our programs rely on the coordinated efforts of students, employees, faculty, and external agencies.

Our Fire and Safety shop reports to the Sr. Manager, Facilities and Operations. The shop is responsible for conducting Fire Safety inspections on fire protection and detection equipment on the Coral Gables campus. We respond to fire alarms and work closely with the University of Miami Police Department & CGFD to respond and restore protection equipment to normal operating condition after any incident.
